Feeling Like Job
Job complains his way through chapter 7. Let’s take the time to compare his attitude to our own.
Job says… “Human life is a struggle, a life sentence to hard labor. A longing for quitting time and payday. My life meanders and goes nowhere — full of aimlessness and nights of misery!
I go to bed and think, ‘How long till I can get up?’ I toss and turn all night. My body is a wreck. I’m fed up! “And so, I’m not keeping one bit of this quiet, my complaining to high heaven is bitter, but…
Can’t ever get ahead? Wonder how to make ends meet? Try this plan for size.
First, make a plan! That should be obvious. ((See Luke 14:8)
Then get out of debt. Some suggest paying down smaller debts first while others say pay the higher interest ones first. The most important thing is to do something, anything! (Proverbs 2:27)
Oh, boy. Next, we must live on less than we make. Remember you did this very thing when you had less income. Time to do it again. (Proverbs 21:20)
Save, invest. That means you take some cash off the top and do…
Luke 11 is about our attitude to prayer. Jesus was praying in a certain place; just Jesus and Jesus alone. The disciples were watching him and maybe even listening to him pray.
No doubt Jesus prayed with meaning and fervour. Just look at his prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane where he sweated blood. Jesus prayed intense prayers and he got answers to his prayers.
The disciples thought that the words made the difference. “Teach us some words Jesus, like John taught his disciples some words!” In those days, famous Rabbis composed special prayers for their followers. Possibly, it elevated…
We sat in the doctor’s office with my seventy-five-year-old dad. The diagnosis meant a five-hour surgery. He seemed overly quiet, almost morose.
I said, “Dad, this is nothing. We’ve all had longer surgeries than that. It’s no big deal.” He replied, “It’s not that, it’s just that I suddenly realized — I really am old!”
Friends, that’s the DAZE! Some incident suddenly forces age recognition upon us. It might be a health issue; a store clerk offering a senior’s discount (without your asking!), or that first gray hair. Suddenly, our mortality is thrust upon us. We are well…
I am too old.
I don’t have the right education.
I have no family backing.
I have no money.
I dislike the whole idea.
I don’t feel safe doing that.
I am not sure it is God’s will.
I will have to move.
I don’t like moving.
I will have to use my spiritual gifts.
I don’t know what my spiritual gifts are.
I don’t believe God gave me any spiritual gifts.
To all I say…BAH! HUMBUG!
Do not put a limit on God. We all have drawbacks and failings, but that is why God chose us. He wants to…
Who is Gay and Why Do You Care? I ask you honestly, why do you care? What business is it of yours if someone is a stay-at-home housewife, a vegetarian, or gay? Does their being what they are, make you bigger or more important? No. It makes you a perpetuator of abuse, a bully.
When Peter saw him (John), he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” (From John 21:21–22, NIV)
Some stuff is none of our business. Our business is…
WARNING!!! DANGER!! WARNING!!! DANGER!!! WARNING!!!
I feel compelled to warn you. I don’t want anyone leading you off on some wild-goose chase, after other so-called mysteries, or “the Secret.”
My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well-constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith.
Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.
Watch out for people who try…
“I did a push up today. Well, actually, I fell down. But I had to use my arms to get up so you know; close enough.” Who are we kidding? That is a lie!
Yet equally ridiculous things are said every minute of every day and we take them at face value and believe them.
Many people believe that a person only ever uses ten percent of their brain.
Is this true of you? Are you willing to believe outrageous claims that are at least fantasy or worse, outright lies?
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes…
Don’t brag about your 20/20 vision. It doesn’t mean you see perfectly. 20/20 is just a term describing how well you see at twenty feet. In England the doctor would say you have 6/6, meaning a distance of 6 meters not 20 feet.
20/20 or 6/6 means there is sharp vision at a specific distance. It does not rule out other eye problems like side vision or depth perception, or even colour blindness.
Glasses fix most of what we are missing.
I got three times more money from Medium this month…three times more than last month!
Perhaps like me, you struggle for that that big payout that others brag about. Well, who doesn’t? Just remember nothing comes from just waiting around. We must act and act immediately before those really successful folks get all the cash into their bank accounts!
I really am, (in spite of what God says about greed and jealousy!)
I ignored that Bible truth, and I chased the success of others. I read all their articles with bated breath. I prayed some of their success would rub…
